Gurashey in Sukiapokhri, an upcoming hill top located very close to Sukhiapokhri offers the entire Kanchenjunga range view. The place with a forest fill of rich Silver Fir, Hemlock and Magnolia is very much in its virgin state with a few homes offerring accommodation facilities. As of now, when the famous Hill Cart Road is closed due to huge landslide in Tindharia, three routes will lead you to Darjeeling, the Rohini route, the Pankha Bari route and the Mirik route, the Mirik route, though the longer one is the direct route to Gurashey and Sukiapokhri. Gurashey can also be reached through other two routes which joins the Hill Cart Road near Kurseong. You just need to take a diversion from Ghoom. Sukiapokhri during a jam free day will take around 45 minutes from Ghoom. This is also in the route of Manebhanjane, from where the famous Sandakphu trek can be undertaken. So, you are flooded with options during your next North Bengal tour where Gurashey is a good option to undertake. During Spring, sparkling Rhododendrons will show the path through the entire route. The height of Gurashey is around 6850ft. You are surely going to remember the exotic view of Mt. Kanchenjunga with its spectacular ranges for years.
Jore Pokhri, 2 km from Gurashey, is another developing tourist spot. It is on the way to Simana village, a dreamland in undulating greens, near the border with Nepal. Lepcha Jagat, 4 kms ,on the way to Ghoom, is worth a visit. For those on the lookout for foreign goods, a trip to Pashupati Market is a must.Darjeeling town, 20 kms, is an hour drive. Gurashey can be reached directly from Siliguri/NJP on a three hour drive via Mirik.
