WBTDC introduces special package for Durga Pujo ’09
West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation Limited (WBTDC) has introduced a special package with accommodation in star hotels for Durga Puja festival this year. The Corporation has also reintroduced pandal tour after a gap of five years and has increased the number of buses and launches for this year’s Durga Puja. These buses are used for tours to traditional house pujas and pandal hopping packages. “We have started new packages because these tours have become very popular. We also want to encourage private tour operators to tap the market,” said Manabendra Mukherjee, Tourism Minister, West Bengal.
According to a report in Telegraph, WBTDC will run 54 additional buses and two extra launches compared to last year. “Last year, we had ten AC buses and only four non─AC ones,” said an official of WBTDC. The Corporation is re─introducing the pandal tour after nearly five years. The tours will be conducted from 9am to 5.30pm on September 25, 26 and 27 (Saptami, Ashtami and Navami). There are five routes — two in South Calcutta; one to the old pujas of North Calcutta like Telengabagan, Bagbazar and College Square.
